| | | Description | The midwest catholic workers and friends . . .
present the great
"die-in of 2008"
october 8, 2008
omaha, nebraska, u. s. a.
where: 10th and douglas streets, qwest convention center omaha (w.b.t.w. is supposedly "publicly - owned" by the people of omaha)
for what?: stratcom's 2008 "strategic space (weapons) symposium"
filmed by marghee for blackout omaha / queen mab productions and peace
why?: the midwest catholic workers and friends gather in response (via a peaceful, civil protest) to the presence of stratcom holding its "strategic space symposium" in omaha.
the following commentary is by shiva the cat:
"for those who don't know, such "war-tool" conventions are the happy gathering place for weapons contractors of space weapon technology, war-profiteers, and other creepy members of the unseen "power elite" to wheel and deal in weapons of mass death and destruction. these war-time, power-brokers think they're slick, dealing in matters of such serious life / death circumstances. and i guess for this lifetime, the war-mongers and profiteers got it going on; that is, they do if someone likes hummers and the smell of cheap, overly-perfumed fellow nouveau-idiot-riche! real humanity, critical thinking, and even recent history is forgotten, replaced by utter ignorance and an embarrassing disconnect. well, that's their problem and dense, tense, and haunted karma. (though admittedly i still kind of envy you guys' huge-ass marble kitchens and gated homes! nice.)
but do such totally awesome material possessions keep iraqi war ghosts away??? or ghosts made from "drones" in afghanistan and pakistan? especially really pissed-off war ghosts? zoiks! see, according to the rules of the universe, spirits of the tragically dead usually don't forget how they died, especially if a form of injustice was in play. sometimes "they" are really upset, angry, etc. and desperately find ways to be heard and understood. so, representing the dead who died and for those who continue to lose their lives due to current wars (aka "occupations", or sometimes "conflicts" between the rich-elite), here are the midwest catholic workers and friends as they perform their first official die-in, here in omaha, nebraska, u. s. a. we at blackout omaha admire and adore these modern-day saints. even a cat knows: killing isn't necessary. especially mass killing! come on and evolve you war-mongers! (i like your clothes and well-tailored suits, though.)
among, those arrested on that day was frank cordaro (des moines catholic worker), jerry ebner (omaha catholic worker) and omaha peace activist peg gallagher, who was near age 90 at the time of this 2008 filming.
here is the raw, unedited film of that day, the great die-in of '08.
enjoy.
