 Description

I've already shown the west side of state street: the huge vacant lots left when robert taylor was demolished. now i'm showing the homes and businesses across the street. you present and former bronzeville folks will recognize dusable high school, parker house sausage, and a recent arrival, the ain't that sweet cafe. so many are gone that i remember from my childhood, especially the burger king at 48th and state where my father hated to take us because a whopper cost the astronomical sum of 45 cents. (remember, this was the mid-1960's, when you could get two mcdonald's burgers, fries and a shake and get change back from a dollar!) the large ivory-colored building at 55th street is the former butternut bread bakery. after being at this location for 103 years, the low-carb fad closed it forever in 2005. then it's a drive north on wabash to 48th street. i had to turn the sound off at about 4:10. the sound of fire engine sirens was just a little too much.
